and we hope that the experience was of benefit to you all. Thank you for all your efforts and indeed to your families and the ‘chauffeur’

for bringing you to the classes, practices and to the Fleadh which was not always most convenient.

We wish best of luck to all our qualifiers at Fleadh Laighean in Muine Beag , the 9th to 15th of July next.

Bringing us up to date on the recent happenings of Craobh CCÉ,  Cúil an tSúdaire.

At our very well attended AGM, reports were adopted from the Officers on the big level of activities undertaken for the past year.

An Rúnaí, Shirley Conway, presented a comprehensive and lengthy report of all our activities. It was much commented on for it’s inclusive and colourful content.

An Rúnaí, Shirley Conway.

An Cisteoir, Teresa Keller, reported a healthy balance and thanked everyone who had helped out in the various fundraisers held over the year, the Committee, the Members and the Musicians who were not found wanting and gave freely and willingly of their time and effort.

Reports were received from the other Officers as laid out in the Agenda and all reports were unanimously adopted.

The Outgoing Executive and Committee (with some new faces) was  re-elected.

Arrangements were put in place to make presentations on behalf of the Branch to those performers who represented us and themselves with great success at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Ennis 2016. Mementos were presented to Mary O’Donnell, Clare and Seán Faherty, Senan and Cillian Moran, Fionn Connolly, Ciara and Diarmuid Faherty at a Function and Session in the Anvil Inn, Main Street, in the upstairs Restaurant. A very enjoyable night was held with refreshments laid on.

The end of Term Christmas Party was held in Assembly Hall of the Boys’ Primary School on Friday night 16th Dec ’16. A large number of ‘well dressed’ performers and helpers turned out for the occasion.

SCT Celebrations.

On Sunday evening last 25th September ’16, Portarlington Branch CCÉ held a Concert in the CYMS Concert Hall, Mountmellick to present SCT Certs to those Musicians who took part in the exams earlier this year.

A large crowd of happy people, musicians and their families, assembled for the occasion which was admirably organised by our Music class organiser, Gerry Conway.

He was ably assisted  by our Branch Secretary, Shirley Conway who had prepared the Certificates and Class awards and looked after the door and refreshments.

The Certs and Awards were presented by Branch Cathaoirleach, Robert Gleeson. The presentation took the form of a Concert and everyone who wished gave a performance of high standard. At the urging of Gerry, the Cathaoirleach was prevailed on to play some pieces with some of the fiddlers on stage.

He thanked Gerry and Shirley for their continuing hard work on behalf of the Branch and also the Hall Committee and Ger. Lynch who opened and prepared the hall.

In making the presentations, the Cathaoirleach asked the musicians on stage to be aware always of the help given by their Parents and Siblings who act as taxis and general supporters for them in their musical journey. All Musicians gave a big round of applause for this. In complementing all the Musicians for their high standards both in the exams and performance that evening, he also stressed the need for continued practice. It is, as he said, a case of Practice, Practice and More Practice.

The evening drew to a close with all playing a set of Polkas in a forceful, lively fashion.  More Photos here.

Branch Registration 2016/17

Portarlington Comhaltas welcomed all our regular musicians back and many newcomers/beginners to our Music Classes for the coming season over this past the Weekend.

Great enthusiasm, smiles and music filled the Assembly Hall of the Boys’ School on Patrick Street over Friday Night and Saturday Morning. Old pieces were resurrected and played as well as tunes learned over the Summer break. Plans were laid for the time ahead and new undertakings spoken of and agreed.

Class have now resumed and with the demand increasing we advise that if you wish to be part of the Branch activities to get yourself into shape as quickly as you can.
